BMW F800 Cup to Start in Cape Town in 2008

September 17, 2007

An exciting announcement for the Cape Town based BMW racing fans is that there will be a class run for the new BMW F800 S within the regional series in 2008.

The project, currently driven by ex BoxerCup racers, Paul Medell, Bernie Botes and Wayne Fritz of Atlantic Motorrad, has really taken off with support and entries coming, not only from privateers, but also from Donford Motorrad Stellenbosch and Hamman Motorrad Bellville.

The series will be run using the liquid cooled parallel twin BMW F800 S, which delivers a power output of 85 Hp @ 8000 rpm and torque of 86 Nm @ 5800 rpm, all running through a superb handling frame, with a dry weight of 182Kg.

Modifications on the motorcycles will be kept to a minimum, ensuring that that the formula has very close racing, and results will not be determined by the size of the cheque book.

Modification allowed include:
# Glass-fibre fairing (including belly pan and bubble screen)
# Rear sets to move the foot peg position
# After market slip on silencer
# Crash bobbin kit
A controlled tyre will be used and competitors must run the tyres for two consecutive race meetings. Currently specified will be Bridgestone soft compound front and medium compound rear tyres.Brake pads, fuel, oil and filters will be free.

Indicators, hooters, pillion foot pegs and handle bar controls may be removed to minimise accident repair costs.

The first two F800 S race bikes will compete at the Killarney regional event to be held on Saturday 6th October 2007, and will be ridden by Wayne Fritz of Atlantic Motorrad and Rob Holder of BMW Motorrad SA.

Anyone interested in getting involved in the series is welcome to come into the pits and see the bikes and talk to the riders, who will be more than willing to answer any question.

Scooters Pizza Crew Now in Ethiopia

September 17, 2007

Scooters Pizza Crew Now in Ethiopia The Scooters Pizza crew are currently embarking on a cross-African pizza delivery adventure in order to set the world record for the longest pizza delivery on a motorbike (namely BMW’s R1200 GS Adventure).

The crew are currently in Ethiopia after having departed South Africa in August, and the density of the villages and the wet and muddy conditions (Ethiopia is currently in the midst of its rainy season) are slowing the riders in their quest to make it to London in 39 days.

However, on the flipside, the rain has brought new shades to the colour green and the crew are enjoying some of the amazing scenery that Ethiopia is renowned for.

The guys have also endured some terrible road conditions en-route through Kenya and Tanzania, but are undeterred in continuing their quest.

The expedition has its own website (click here) where you can check-up to see how the guys are doing and what their latest adventure has been, where the route has taken them so far and even space to for you to leave your own personal message for the crew.

Take a look too at team member Jay’s ‘View from a Novice’ article – it’s a great insight into a novice’s preparation for the trip as well as his gradual mastery of BMW’s R1200 GS motorcycle.
